Mission
To advance knowledge and understanding through multidisciplinary research, collaboration, and education, addressing Iraq's unique cultural, historical, and scientific challenges and opportunities.
vision
To be the premier international institution fostering advanced research and scholarship in Iraq, bridging local and global academic communities.
To meet these goals, TARII is working to open its multidisciplinary research center and library in Baghdad publicly. We are also developing a culture center in Mosul beginning in 2026. TARII raises funds for graduate and post-graduate fellowships for Americans to work on Iraq in as broad a range of disciplines as possible. It also has a fellowship program for Iraqi academics to aid them in carrying out research in Iraq. TARII initiates and fosters collaborative research projects and programs between American and Iraqi academics. Like similar American overseas research centers, TARII has as its primary focus the humanities and social sciences, as well as closely related natural sciences.
TARII was formerly the American Association for Research in Baghdad (AARB).
